Losing weight may feel like a mystery to many people. There are so many different views and opinions available that it can be hard to know what is right for you. Here are some things that you might not know about weight loss that can help you to get the results that you need.

1. Counting Calories Is Not Always Helpful

Many people put so much emphasis on calorie counting. Although it is important not to overeat, actually restricting your calories too much can be a problem. Your body may feel as though it is starving and hold onto the fat that it has as an emergency storage. Instead of focusing so much on how many calories you are eating, focus more on what you are eating. Many people who get great results are eating a good deal of calories, it is just that those calories are clean, whole foods that are healthy and nutritious. Every calorie that they eat is dedicated to nurturing their body and giving them energy. Thus, if you are going to diet, start making changes to what you eat, and then if you are ready to take the next step,, you can start focusing on how much of those things you are eating. You also might surprise yourself in that when you eat clean, whole foods, you will feel less hungry and won't eat as much.

2. Longer Exercise Isn't Always The Best

It would seem that the more time you spend at the gym or exercising would mean more results. For some people, this may work, but if you are really working towards weight loss, you can get just as good of results, or better results, by exercising for shorter periods at a higher intensity. There is a type of exercise called HIIT, which stands for high-intensity interval training. This type of exercise makes you go through short bursts of exercise using all of your muscles groups, followed by very short periods of rest. You get your heart rate going up and down, and you work your muscles to the point of exhaustion. By doing this, you get your heart rate into the fat-burning zone, and you continue to burn calories throughout the day because you are essentially working your muscles and doing cardio at the same time. For many, 30 minutes of HIIT is more effective for weight loss then running for an hour.

As you can see there are some things that you can do to change your lifestyle to get the weight loss that you want. Contact a weight loss doctor for additional advice.
